Nothing is worse for a young adult about to set out on the path of their life than discovering from one’s physician during a routine check up or through blood work that the young adult has unwittingly contracted a sexually transmitted disease. Worse yet, is the discovery that the disease in question is in fact genital herpes.

This is then compounded by the fact that there is no known cure for genital herpes, and there is no real effective medical treatment for the condition either. This has led many people so afflicted with the disease to the Internet, in search of other potential remedies, and this had led to the discovery of several types of herbal cures and natural herpes cures.

First, it will help to know a little bit about what genital herpes is exactly. Genital herpes is a form of the herpes simplex virus that effects the patient’s genitals with painful and uncomfortable flare ups, rashes, dry skin, pus filled blisters and painful and irritating soars throughout the pubic region.

There are also a host of other symptoms, including pain in the legs and arms, pain in the rectum and anus, pain during urination, nausea, involuntary urethral discharges for men, and involuntary vaginal discharges for women.

Worse yet, genital herpes is a chronic condition that there is no known cure for, and few viable medical treatments are available either. Though there are anti viral drugs, they are largely ineffective. So it is little wonder then that so many patients are seeking a natural herpes cure. And while there are many out there on the market, they too are largely ineffective at treating the actual herpes virus, or even the symptoms during a flare up.

There are two basic types of natural cures for genital herpes. There are the herbal treatments and there are the topical treatments. Technically there is a third method, which is basic attention to hygiene, but that is not so much of a natural cure for herpes as it is just plain common sense.

Herbal Treatments
Taken in the form of oral supplements or as an herbal topical solution, whole body healers and herbalists swear by the abilities of the herbs at their disposal to abate the flare ups of the herpes virus and to ease the pain, discomfort and frustration of the condition itself. Unfortunately there is little evidence that these herbal treatments are in any way effective.

Lavender oil Is a great skin protectant that is anti-viral, anti-septic and anti- inflammatory that protects both the lesions and the surrounding skin tissue helps to relieve the pain and discomfort during the outbreak, as well as the anxiety associated with the condition, and is useful for any lingering neuralgia after the outbreak has stopped.

Eucalyptus oil is also very useful in treating herpes it has a cooling effect that helps with the “heat” associated with herpes outbreaks, specifically when the outbreak occurs in the anal region, it is also anti viral and anti-bacterial.

Herpes Simplex may be localized or generalized. If localized, the first sign of herpes may appear on the mouth and gums, on the tissue of one eye (even involving the cornea); it may even appear on the genitals, or at the site of some skin injury as small blisters. If the signs appear in the mouth, the first sign of herpes is known as cold sores, while in other areas, it is known as blisters.

The disease may produce no symptoms and may pass unnoticed. Antibodies are produced; however, it only occurs during the first infection because the subsequent manifestations of the disease are different from those of the first one.

Once the person is infected with herpes, the person is going to go through a series of stages as the disease progresses. First if the Primary stage which begins as early as two days after the person has been infected or as long as 8 days after the infection. It is during this stage that the cold sores and blisters appear. The next state is the Latency stage where the cold sores and blisters disappear as if herpes is gone. On the contrary, the virus has already packed its bags and begins to travel from the skin going to the nerves located near the spine to rest waiting for the opportune time. It is at this time when a person must be careful because complications brought by cuts, wounds and other illness can reawaken the virus. After the Latency stage, Shedding stage follows then the Recurrence. Shedding stage is the time when the virus is reawakened and distributed to other parts of the body after it has multiplied in the nerves; and Recurrence is when herpes occurs shortly after the first herpes attack where the first signs of herpes – cold sores and blisters – still appear.

Unfortunately, herpes is not a curable disease. However, there are many treatments and medications available to remedy the pain and discomfort brought about by the first sign of herpes. These include vaccines, and antiviral pills and medications to help speed up the healing process. However, if these are not easily available, a person with herpes can either take aspirin, ibuprofen or acetaminophen as pain relievers. A cloth immersed in lukewarm water and placed over the sore or the blister and taking lukewarm baths help soother the pain. The most important of all is to keep the infected area clean and dry. For those afflicted with genital herpes, they should stop wearing tight fitting clothes and nylon underwear.
