Genital Herpes – How To Reduce The Risk

Published by admin under Herpes Information

Genital herpes is a non-curable disease and it is desirable what we try to reduce the risk of contacting it. As we know it is mostly spread by skin-to-skin contact mainly during sexual act. To minimize your exposure to HSV follow the following- 1. Avoid any sex if your partner is having an active outbreak. Using condom may not protect transmission from exposed areas. Herpes virus is most active during active outbreak and any contact is best avoided during this period. Inform your partner if you are having an active outbreak. This includes the period called prodrome phase when the person realizes that active outbreak will be setting in soon. During this period tingling and or burning sensations occurs on the genital skin. 2. Most cases of Genital herpes are transmitted by people who are affected by it, but do not realize that. Get yourself and your partner tested to find out the presence of herpes antibodies. The good news is that if you and your partner have same kind of herpes you may not need to take precautions. 3. Use latex condoms during every sexual encounter. Use latex condoms even when no signs of an outbreak are present. Some people shed virus even if they show no outbreak. This is called asymptomatic shedding. Protection is never 100% with condoms because exposed areas may shed virus. 4. You and your partner may wish to consult your doctor about suppressive antiviral therapy. This therapy reduces the chances of transmission and increases the gap between active outbreaks.

Why Do We Find Genital Herpes Dreadful?

Published by admin under Cures & Treatment

Let us take an example. It is an extreme example but needed to show clearly what I want to say. Suppose you have two friends. One gets cancer and other gets genital herpes. The chances are more favorable that the person with cancer will discuss about it openly while the person with herpes will try to hide the fact. Do you agree with my thinking that this may happen as I have described? Does this not look surprising that people with herpes are so scared of it. Why is this so? Let us discuss. Herpes on genitals is considered bad. it shows that you may have been relating with many people who in turn relate to many others. We somehow feel low about this kind of behavior. But herpes can be contacted with a single partner who had cold sore. The little stigma that is attached to genital herpes needs to be removed. Herpes is for lifetime. This is another factor that plays on our mind. Oh, now that I have genital herpes I must suffer for my life. I agree that herpes cannot be eliminated forever. But how many people get recurrences? What are the frequencies of these recurrences? And what is the intensity of these breakouts? Not much in most of the cases. Today anti viral medicines can control genital herpes to a great extent. Suppressive therapy will practically reduce the recurrences to nil. You need to discuss this with your doctor. One need not advertise that one has genital herpes. But one need not feel any dread about it. It is not life threatening. It occurs once in few months and goes away even without medicines.

Similarities Between Genital Warts and Genital Herpes

Published by admin under Herpes Information

It is essential that you know the similarities between genital warts and genital herpes because, if you know their similarities, you will be able to have a better chance of determining which condition you have and will be able to treat it properly.

Warts and herpes are both caused by viruses. The human papilloma virus (HPV) causes warts while the herpes simplex virus causes herpes. The latter is categorized into two and in the case of genital herpes, the type 2 virus is responsible for it.

Genital Warts

HPV comes in many varieties and a certain variety of such virus causes genital warts. Some genital warts are hardly noticeable but there are also visible ones. If you’re a sexually active individual, then you might have a higher chance of getting infected with HPV. Both men and women can get the virus. The body has a natural defense system which clears up the genital warts however, if infections often recur, the genital warts should be removed.

Women with recurring genital warts are candidates for cervical cancer. By consulting a doctor, you can get accurate diagnosis. Your doctor will offer you various treatment options to remove the warts.

Genital Herpes

Sexually active people who often have sexual contacts with no protection are prone to genital herpes. This condition is due to the type 2 HSV. This is the virus responsible for genital herpes and you can easily get them especially if you don’t use any protection when having sexual contacts with multiple partners. You should be aware of the symptoms of genital herpes.

Genital herpes is tricky. The virus usually stays dormant even when already acquired; and then there will be outbreaks. If you see blisters on your pubic area plus you feel sick at the same time, feel burning sensations and itching, and you’re coughing, then you might be infected with the HSV-2. Stress can trigger genital herpes outbreaks and if you already have the virus, the outbreak will come sooner. There are various kinds of treatment options for genital herpes but most infected individuals are scared and ashamed to seek medical help. They fear being judged since HSV-2 is primarily transmitted sexually or through oral sex.

Both viruses affect the genitals and sometimes it can even affect the cervix, urethra, and the anal region; it depends on the extent of the infection. Genital warts and herpes should not be left untreated especially among women. Forget about the shame or embarrassment. Don’t attempt to treat genital warts and genital herpes on your own because you might cause further infection. Seek medical help at once so that your doctor can identify the best treatment options suitable for you. Oftentimes, the doctor will prescribe medications to treat the symptoms.

Aside from the topical creams and oral medications, there’s the laser removal method and the surgical methods, the latter is a more invasive means of treating genital warts.

These are the similarities between genital warts & herpes. Now that you know some of the facts, you don’t have to wonder anymore if you have warts or herpes. See your doctor if you see any of the signs or symptoms, for a more accurate diagnosis and for you to know what your options are for treating your condition.

Advice For Singles With Herpes

Published by admin under Herpes Dating, Herpes Information

Having an STD like herpes can make you feel like you are separated from the rest of the world. Catching herpes after being launched into the dating scene can be a great discouragement. Singles with herpes are many in the world and you should not feel alone in any way. You can join herpes support groups for friendship and support. There are a growing number of people living with herpes all over the world. This has led to invention of new industry which is Internet dating web sites for people with herpes. It is actually amazing that one in four women is infected with herpes and one in six men is also infected. Once you get over the shock of being diagnosed with herpes you should go online. You will feel so consoled because the number of sites for people living with STD is very high.

Singles with herpes have found solid comfort through online dating sites. Craig who is a single professional man from North Carolina ended up with herpes. Talking to only one person and telling him/her about what how he was feeling was good enough but when he joined a dating site he found more than 500 people to talk to. They were all living with herpes but just like him, they were decent people. They provided support and other services that were very useful to him. It feels good to talk to people who understand what you are going through. In these dating sites, all the members are infected and therefore they are more than willing to listen to your story and set you free in more than one way.

Dating for singles with herpes is not as easy like for singles with cancer or diabetes. The fact that herpes is a sexually transmitted disease makes a lot of people to become opinionated. You might be educated with a masters degree, good money but it is hard to enjoy a good relationship with a person who knows your status. If you are dating a person who is not infected it is quite hard to tell the right time to disclose your status. In the dating sites you are advised on when and how to tell a prospective girlfriend/boyfriend about herpes. It is one of the greatest ethical problems experienced by most people. Whenever Jennifer would tell men that she was dating with herpes, all prospective men would run in the opposite direction.

Spreading a disease is not something most of us want to do unless you do not fear guilty trips. The beauty about herpes dating sites is that all the members have the disease therefore you do not have to worry about spreading it to other people. Most new members feel nervous about joining the site since it is usually their first time to disclose their status or talk about it openly. Whenever a support group is organized many are nervous to enter through the door and some even go back on reaching the entrance. Singles with herpes appreciate the support groups and one of the organizers confessed that she usually receives flowers after the party.

Genital Herpes – How The Herpes Virus Gets Transmitted?

Published by admin under Herpes Information

When we speak about transmission, we are finding out about how the virus enters the body. Both HSAV 1 and HSV2 can enter the body through tiny cuts in the skin (even microscopic) and through the mucous membrane. Our inside of mouth, inner genitals, anus, are all covered with mucous membrane. If you get in contact with saliva of an infected person or the lesion or skin, which is shedding virus, your chances of getting herpes are high. Let us discuss this further.

Genital herpes is transmitted by sexual contact. If a partner is infected he/she can transmit the genital herpes virus to the partner. Some facts are given below-

The risks of transmission are very high when the infected person is having active outbreak of herpes.

If a partner has cold sores and performs oral sex on the other partner, transmission will take place.

Both HSV1 and HSV2 can cause genital herpes. HSV1 infection is commonly found in the mouth. Kissing will therefore transmit herpes virus causing oral herpes in the other partner.

The transmission can take place even if active outbreak is not seen. Many people shed the virus without showing any outbreak this is called asymptomatic shedding. So if you are involving in sexual activity with someone with no outbreak signs, you may still get herpes if the other person sheds the virus.

The possibility of transmission is high during the prodrome phase. Genital herpes has a phase called the prodrome phase. This phase occurs before the outbreak and indicates that an outbreak will occur soon. During this phase, one gets sensations such as tingling, itching or some pain in the genital area. Active outbreak takes place in a day or two or more after that. Beware of this phase in your partner.

What Is Herpes?

Published by admin under Herpes Information

Simply put, herpes is a form of STD. There are generally two type of herpes - genital herpes and oral herpes. Genital herpes occur around the genital area while oral herpes appear around the mouth or face. However, it is important to note that the herpes outbreak can occur anywhere on the body.

Usually the first outbreak after infection is the most severe. There will be blisters filled with fluid either on the face, genital or anus. These blisters should crust and dry without any scar. The outbreak might be accompanied by other symptoms like fever. Usually, the first episode is the most severe. But there are cases where the symptoms are so mild that the patient is not even aware that they have contracted an STD.

The herpes outbreak can recur from time to time and the probability of transmitting it to another person is highest during these periods. But herpes can be transmitted even when no sores are seen. If you suspect you are suffering from herpes, you should seek medical advice.

Herpes is caused by the Herpes Simple Virus and there are two variants: HSV-1 and the HSV-2 viruses.

HSV-1 is generally associated with oral herpes, or more commonly known as cold sores. The HSV-2 virus is generally associated with genital herpes.

There is a common misconception that HSV-1 is the “good” virus, while HSV-2 is the “bad” virus. The reason for this is the fact that cold sores are some how, more socially acceptable than the outbreak of genital herpes.

But the reality is that both of these viruses are very similar. They both transmit through sexual contact and that can be by oral sex or penetrative sex. Both types of virus attacks the body’s mucosal surfaces, and usually the face or the genitals, then they become dormant but continue to be found in the body.

The HSV-1 virus normally establishes its “base” around the nerve cells near the ear, while the HSV-2 virus some how prefers to establish itself near the base of the spine.

This is the reason HSV-1 outbreaks are normally around the lower lip or face and the HSV-2 outbreaks are around the genital areas. But both viruses are essential the same. In terms of severity of infection and risk of infection, there is little to differentiate them.

There is no cure for herpes. However, outbreaks can be controlled by anti-viral creams and medication. While others prefer to turn to holistic treatments and herbal remedies as they believe these are non-invasive approaches.

All told, the herpes infection is much more of a social problem than it is a medical problem. Most outbreaks can be treated and in many cases, the effects are mild. But the social stigma of having contacted an STD like herpes can devastate social and family life. If you are a woman sufferer, and you don’t want your health condition to jeopardize your chances to start a family, go talk to a medical practitioner now. With early treatment, there is still a chance to deliver a strong baby. Even with herpes, life is still worth cherishing
